OUR STORY & FAMILY
Inspired by Our Indian Roots
Tusk was founded in 1993 by Hiten Manseta. It’s the continuation of a generations-old family business from India. So while we’re based in NYC, all of our products are subtly inspired by those Indian roots, and our factory in Mumbai is still managed by Hiten’s sisters, Aditi and Vyoma. That family approach has earned us a reputation for quality — a reputation that we seek to honor with every handcrafted piece we make.
Fair Wages. Ethically sourced. Sustainably made. It's in our DNA.

AND VISIT OUR FACTORY
Every Tusk product is handcrafted by artisans in our factory in India. Here is the story behind a few of the craftsmen who make the pieces you have come to love!
If you are ever in India, we would love to show you around our factory! We don't just say our products are sustainably made and ethically sourced, we are happy to show you exactly where we produce each piece.
At Tusk, quality is a promise, and it’s a tradition. 20 years ago, we opened the Tusk factory in Mumbai, India. It’s modeled on a traditional Italian workshop but is rooted in the commitment to craftsmanship that Hiten, our founder, grew up alongside in Bombay. Owning our own factory, and staffing it with dedicated craftspeople — many of whom have been with us since the beginning — helps keep our costs low by minimizing production delays, reducing manufacturing errors, and conducting quality control in real-time.
We believe in using only the highest-quality full-grain leathers. Leathers that we’ve actually held. Leathers that we want to live with. Leathers that develop beautiful patinas. Leathers that we want to pass down. We believe that form follows function, but that you shouldn’t have to sacrifice one for the other. And we believe in caring about even the smallest details. From zippers that won’t catch to thoughtfully designed interior pockets that are there for you when you need them, and out of your way when you don’t.
